How to Hire and Retain Developers // BUSINESS 645

Tuesday, March 6th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm

We are entering the year with a very marked 'Talent War' in NYC. It's difficult to hire A-list developers, and even harder to retain them. Don’t settle and don’t panic. This workshop will give you tips and tools to hire the best developers in town and tell you how to retain them.

This workshop is for hiring managers, technical directors, anyone who runs a technical team and can benefit from tips on hiring and retaining a technical team without blowing the bank on internal or external recruiters.

We'll cover the following:

  • 2012 Trends in NYC Tech
  • How to Accurately Identify your Need - Figuring out what role you need to hire for, how that fits in with your existing team, and how to measure success
  • Being Realistic about your Deal Breakers - What technical and non-technical factors will automatically eliminate candidates
  • Creating a Useful Job Description
  • Recruiting Activities - Beyond Job Ads (What else you can be doing now to build your pipeline)
  • The Interview Process - Legal vs Illegal Questions, How to set up the entire process (from the first contact with the candidate through to the offer letter)
  • Iterate - Improvement Techniques
  • Retention Strategies
